Westie to the Rescue

Painting

We have been away from computers for a bit.

My dad went into the hospital for a few days, we thought,

and ended up staying two weeks.

He is home now and very happy to be there.

One nice thing is that on Thanksgiving Day the hospital

cafeteria gave us a full on Thanksgiving Day Meal for free.

Sweet potatoes, squash and apples, turkey, mashed potatoes...

you get the picture. We thought that was very nice of them.
Then later we had a lovely Thanksgiving Day dinner
that my daughter cooked. I ended up not doing very much
in the kitchen this year.

I did get a few paintings done today.  One of my westie boy

who probably thinks we have been off on vacation every day

the last few weeks. Not.  Outside he usually is at a running pace

everywhere he goes. And I tend to be slower with wellies on.

So our westie boy is the scout.

Fairy Children ACEO Original and Brewing Storms

Fairies are on my watercolor pad

soft and sweet and neat

even though there is a storm

brewing coming up the coast

these girls are content to set

atop flower cushions and keep

their hair up and tidy with flowers

from a zinnia center. Did you ever

notice flowers inside of flowers?

Zinnias have darling little flowers

inside their centers that

the fairies use to hold up their hair

braids and curls.

Valentine Hearts in the Kitchen

Don't you believe in putting love into your cooking?

I do! Red pepper hearts for the little valentines.

Sweet things don't always mean it's full of sugar.

We didn't eat on time

as you can see I had alot of fun
preparing dinner.

This just shows hearts can

be put back together with love.
I did eventually get my fajitas made.

Kids love visual shapes at the table.

Fresh vegetables are good for everyone.

Red fruits and vegetables are loaded with goodies.

And, of course, I had to save the red pepper seeds!

Two children dancing....are they in the flowers? When the fiddle is playing no one notices in the merriment.

On the bottom of the cup it has the mark "Barratts Staffordshire England". I don't know if this was truly manufactured in England or not, but it is beautiful to look at.

Florida Bungalow Front Porch

A very cute country porch in Florida. I like it because it reminds me of our yellow house at home, but I don't have anything red on the porch nor ceiling fans. At least not yet. When you see a white picket fence and some country charm you want to know who lives there. This place has character. It's someone I want to meet. There are large shade trees on this road so the dappled shade is a perfect retreat from the hot sunshine with sweetened ice tea.

Yes, there is no end to the creativity

of these cupcake people.

They are very good

at artistically recycling

cupcake wrappers.

I used to dream

of opening a

gourmet cupcake shop,

but for now

I will be happy painting

and not getting up

at 4am to bake cupcakes!

SHABBY CHIC Frida Kahlo Valentine Hearts Painting

My new Frida painting has those soft colors in it that we love Shabby Chic for. Especially the Shabby Chic sheets...the tiniest little soft pink roses sprinkled generously about on the white clouds of cotton. If you look closely Frida's bodice has some of those roses on it. Handpainted.

The pink heart swing is like a dream...who would want to sit on the dull black and gray ones when you can sit swing on this one for the romantics. Frida has yummy chocolate valentines, a red, rich-fragrant rose in her hair, fresh air whistling by her cheeks and a bluebird perched on her toe! That is love!

This cute heart painting is up for grabs on ebay today. And I think I have had chocolate myself every day for the last week which was around for grabs. That just comes from painting valentines and standing in lines at stores and of course, I love it.

Orange Mums Burgundy Purple Coral Bells Foliage

Another variation of the orange and plum/purple colors. The mums are a burnt orange and the shadows in the flowers petals are the same plum color as the heuchera, "obsidian" coral bells' leaves. The same color combination as I showed from the day before, but different plants and intensities of color.

The Fall season really has alot going for it if you have contrasting foliage and flower combinations next to the oranges, reds and yellows! I have been a burgundy or royal purple, as some call it, foliage fan for years! The purple makes the orange seem more intense.

Westie wows and Gardening trivia

I think our westie, Sir Salty, could get a part time job as a lei greeter. He always meets us at the door with a gift item in his mouth...drops it, smiles and then kisses us. Oh, and he looks beautiful, too.

Now he doesn't just grab anything it has to be appropriate for the "arrivee" (not yet published in dictionaries). Then he makes a circle around your feet and taps you with his tail with love pats.
When we let him outside he runs out barking. It's his gracious way of giving anyone and everyone a five-second warning he is now in control. Everyone else move aside (animals and birds).

We had a tornado watch and severe thunderstorms yesterday. Our electricity was out for almost 24 hours. Many people are still without it. Five days is the projected time from the power company for most. Several big trees tore in half. Most all of the William Baffin rose petals flew down to the pavement. They rise high over an arbor but now they look like they are ashamed and bowed down. The air is so full of honeysuckle probably from all the jostling around.

The vegetable garden could turn into a sink hole. Then again a sink hole is usually when the water table lowers and then its open and the ground sinks.

Today when Sir Salty looked into a mud puddle he couldn't believe what he was seeing. He tried to smell the face, but his nose got wet. He next put his paw in the water to touch the westie face and his paw gets wet. He turns his head left and then right swiveling it back and forth to see if he can hear anything from this face. It is a mystery.

Primitive American Girl Candylei Cake Folk Art Painting

Hooray! Today I rototilled the garden. It's a beautiful sight just like a blank canvas. After a week there will be weeds growing no doubt, but TODAY....It is a sweet-smelling parcel of earth full of promise!

Our Westie, was quite pleased with it, too, as it was so soft and digable. I had to lather him twice in his bath afterward. The bluejays, robins and cardinals hopped around on it after we came inside. They were doing their own folk dance while the doves watched from the oak tree not sure if they should join in.

I finished a sweet painting of 3 girls holding up cupcakes. (We are still in the cupcake cooking frenzy.) This painting is also special because it portrays 3 family members.
