Frida Kahlo ACEO Portraits

Flowers are a woman's best friend.

 Frida thinks that and

her hair is the best place to

display them.

In this little aceo mixed media painting

Frida picks some for herself and some for you

and left some for the birds to dance on.

We are getting a good scrubbing of wind and rain

from Hurricane Sandy.  Sandy please settle down!

The good thing is we are getting family time inside!

More about painting here.

Original ACEO's Here Dictionaryreader

Sweet little creations have been flowing

as of late from my creative space and heart.

..................................................................

Vera took a napkin and folded it into a chef's hat!

She is clever and fun.

Little Vera is a fine baker (whereas I am a better taster

than a baker at times) rolling out some dough

cutting out some round cookies when she noticed

she had a rather pumpkin face in front of her.

Her kitchen wall is painted with chalk paint

so she can write down the recipes as she creates them.

(I rather want a gray wall myself to doodle on.)

And her banner, well every day should be a fun day...

and it is if you are doing what you love!

How many times have you started a project to have

it take a turn in midstream...and the turn being for the better?

That seems to be me. Not sure that everyone

will think it is better but I do.

My son has had his third chemotherapy treatment and

is halfway through them. Yay!

Original Butterfly Girl Mixed Media and fairies

These fall days are beautiful and the skies

are a beautiful blue with fluffy clouds.

It reminds me of spring especially when

everyone is tucking bulbs and shrubs in the earth.

I have a few more mixed media girls finished

and will share one of  this sweet butterfly girl

sound asleep on soft flower petals.

If  I was small enough I would do the same thing!

How I love cutting

up bits of paper, paint and paper.

Maybe it was because I bypassed kindergarten

when I was little and didn't get my quality

cutting and drawing time then?

She is up for sale now here.

Love Note Letters and Poem

The little details can speak the loudest.

"A little note of cheer
right from eye to heart
no one can hear it
but one can feel it
lighten our step
bring a smile
lift our head
messages are powerful "

Candylei

I made these tiny letter muslin letters and this little love-line, not to be confused with clothes line, travels about the house. No sewing needed.

Mixed Media Valentine Frog Girl Mushroom Art

Caps come in all sizes, shapes and colors, but these two wear the cutest caps of all. Mr. Frog has an acorn cap. You have to love the rich burnished color of acorns and they are so little, yet a mighty tree is tucked away inside. Which is exactly like Mr. Frog, small but has a mighty jump. The girl has a mushroom cap hat to shade her lovely face. She will be wise in her old age, but never weathered because of her hat. You see that is where her and myself will part camps. I will go to the weathered one and she will stay in the cute one because I love to be outside gardening.

These two share a love for caps but today they are going to share their love for chocolates, that is what best friends do, with a valentine box! This original mixed media/altered art painting is for sale on etsy today. More information here.

I've got some exciting/nerve racking news. It's rather like falling in love. You're excited and yet the butterflies are fluttering in your stomach making you feel sick. Flat on your back one minute and jumping for joy the next, saying, "How can I do this?" More soon.

Alice in Wonderland Party Planner Art Banner

THE PARTY PLANNER

I'm feeling like a party planner myself. We like fluffing up our nests for parties and Alice wants her party to be fun as well. She has cut a bunny banner to hang. Do you see the woodland evergreen rabbit topiaries in the background. It's been said they come to life for tea parties.

A mixture of papers, paint and graphite pencil were used to make this original mixed media piece. I am offering a print of it on etsy. It is soft and sweet with a dreamy quality about it and the background stirs up more imaginations. Imagination is very healthy when it comes to creating art.

The countdown is on and I wonder if I have enough pieces to sell and all of the other worries people have when they show their art. It definitely makes one pick up the pace from a slow stroll to a mad dash. Yes, I feel like the white rabbit! I have the calendar memorized every day of the week, this week, number and day!

Frida Kahlo Altered Art Painting

Paper, scissors, glue and paint made Frida Kahlo soft and romantic looking. Pink always makes us smile! It's true. Frida sleeps with her smile pillow and always wakes up with a smile even though sometimes she hurts. We don't always need to be reminded to do things but often when we look at art it makes us smile. Over and over again.

Some ask why I paint Frida. When I was younger we moved from rainy Oregon to sunny California my first year of high school. They were like two different poles. California is so rich in spanish history, spanish food, spanish music, spanish architecture, spanish clothes, all with the beautiful warm sun shining down on it all. How could anyone not be touched? (I might also mention earthquakes here with sunny California.)

PINK SMILES is up for sale. Details here.

Sushi Girl Mixed Media Folk Art

We've eaten sushi twice in the last few days and it was delicious. Last night after salmon and avocado rolls I came home and with my recylced paper made this 5 x 7 altered art painting. (I painted her as full as I felt.)

Around here we have quite a few sushi bars and they are all doing well, none have had to close down due to lack of business. Do you like the wasabi sauce? I do because it heats it up a few notches and clears up anything that is wrong with your head. The thin ginger is tangy too for a treat.

Original Frida Kahlo Painting by Candylei

Making Room

Frida Kahlo's two cats are very creative. One empties out the clothespins to make room for the two of them. Cozy cats. The cozier the better. Here all of this time Frida Kahlo thought it was the birds emptying them out. (Birds would probably fill it up with their 'junking' treasures, I believe. We have birds that are trying to fill up all of our chimneys one stick at a time.) Cats are curious and cats are clever.

Alice in Wonderland Kids Mushroom Art

Little Alice has shrunk to the size of the little woodland folk. She's thrilled to meet these new
friends who know the forest so well. Real friends
are so much better than imaginery ones and these are real for sure.

I finally got to see the new Alice and Wonderland
movie. I was trying to notice the wristlettes, but with everything happening so fast you miss it. So maybe the second time I'll catch that. Or on a bigger screen where they are bigger than life.

As with all artists we illustrate our own version and turn of events. This is one of mine. Our siamese cat is in it as a siamese toadstool. Have you ever heard of one of those before? She looks right cute.

This is up on ebay now. Skip on over for a look see!

Westie and Girl Art Collage Painting

Soft romantic linens that have that washed slightly faded look...well I am in love with them. They say, summer in the country, in such a sophisticated-romantic way. So if my clothes are like that so are my girls in my paintings this week. When you live in the country, are a gardener and raise sheep, have quite a few linen dresses lined up for a day so you can change when:

the lambs jump up to say hi and soil the front
puppy jumps up to say hi and soils the front
you spill coffee
you spill orange juice
you start painting and forget to change
you snag it on a rose bush
you get the idea... ironically sometimes all three happen at once when you are carrying orange juice and coffee

The title of this painting is "Sharing a Walk." It looks like she is sharing her hair bows, too! Walking with a dog is like having a listening friend who never questions or berates what you are saying. I remember reading about Robert Pattinson practicing, telling his westie what he was going to say to his girlfriend the next day....and Patti, his westie, was very patient and a good listener.

DECORATING Valentine Cupcakes Art Frida Kahlo

Today is cupcake day. This morning I sketched out how I wanted to decorate my Frida and Diego cupcakes and instead of going to the kitchen I started "stirring and cooking" on canvas. Less messy, but not as tasty.

I consciously painted this one in all warm colors. Do they have blue valentine hearts? I know they do have blue cupcake wrappers. The colors were radiant I thought. Just like bold pop art. Then I experimented with some staining (something I have never used til today)...and wow it took it down quite a few notches in boldness and gave it a rather primitive, grungy feel. I used a fine art pencil to write in the letters and words on the valentine heart mouths.

Cupcake Sweethearts is up for sale on ebay.

Now to finish decorating the real cupcakes!

Daily Painting OWLS Girls Mixed Media Artist Candylei

Mixed media paintings are a bit like arranging flowers. Sometimes I have a very clear idea of what I want and other times it changes from the sketch to actual finished work. Art is an ongoing process and if something better pops into our mind as we are layering the pieces we take that route.

These two girls wear bright colors and carry lanterns so the owls can see they are friendly. The blonde is no other than Alice in Wonderland. Do you think she will find a flamingo instead. Who? A flamingo. Oh, I see you are already calling the owls. Up for sale on ebay now.

Check back tomorrow for another cutie. I haven't started it yet, but the idea is in me head. Along with other ideas pushing at the parameters of my mind.
