Westie to the Rescue

Painting

We have been away from computers for a bit.

My dad went into the hospital for a few days, we thought,

and ended up staying two weeks.

He is home now and very happy to be there.

One nice thing is that on Thanksgiving Day the hospital

cafeteria gave us a full on Thanksgiving Day Meal for free.

Sweet potatoes, squash and apples, turkey, mashed potatoes...

you get the picture. We thought that was very nice of them.
Then later we had a lovely Thanksgiving Day dinner
that my daughter cooked. I ended up not doing very much
in the kitchen this year.

I did get a few paintings done today.  One of my westie boy

who probably thinks we have been off on vacation every day

the last few weeks. Not.  Outside he usually is at a running pace

everywhere he goes. And I tend to be slower with wellies on.

So our westie boy is the scout.

Snow Loving Westie

We had a sifting of snow tonight! Enough to put a white sprinkles of confection sugar on everything. Our westie boy was loving it. Running around trying to catch the flakes. It was dark so pictures were like white scratches against a dark background. This getting dark at 5pm is hard to get used to. Then again I try to remember that in Alaska as well as other places it gets dark at 3pm so how lucky we are to have a few more hours of daylight.

Our little westie modeled for this new small watercolor. He's left a present for the squirrels.

Santa Westie Pink Christmas

Elvis can sing about a blue Christmas, but we like pink, pink, pink Christmas. I've finally figured out all of the dogs barking I hear now are really saying, "Ho. Ho. Ho...and away we go." That would explain the commotion. Dogs are competitive at racing. Especially my westie boy. (His cards will not be pink.)

I've had a little time to paint and will be offering them for sale. "Santa" is indoors and sleeping on the floor after a hard day of play.

Westie Dog Morning Hair

The other morning Sir Salty (our westie doggy boy) had quite the hairdo. I was so amused I had to get the camera. He is asking, "Is it morning already?" Getting up in the dark is always harder to do in the winter months. Then I realized that my hair probably didn't look much better, but at least you could see my eyes.

Funny thing about our westie. In the summer he wakes us up every morning. With the birds chirping and singing he can hardly wait to get outside. Now he's like a teenager..."I'll get up after a bit."

Bathing and Painting Westie Dogs

Lots of bathing going on with our westie boy. Living in the country has it's challenges with a bright white (after bathing) westie.

I did this oil painting of him from a photograph I took looking down at him after he was combed out. He tends to get tangles and little pieces of pine and fir trees in his hair. He has the look saying, "Are you finished with that dryer yet?"

He loves the brushing and combing, but gets a little annoyed at the dryer. It's always on the lowest setting, but the noise is unnerving after a few minutes. (They can make almost silent dishwashers when will the hairdryers be almost silent?) By the time I am finished he looks like a white fluffy summer cloud!

Scandinavian Mixed Media Westie Scottie Paintings

These colors are so soft and sweet like new fallen snow. I lightened up in my colors in these two mixed media originals and I feel like I am in Europe with the brightest lights and soft pastels. But I'm really here in Maryland at 44 degrees and no snow on the ground...yet! See the westie racing down the hill. That is exactly what our westie does when our son sleds. They have energy and then some. Both little boys and westies.




I put westie's cousin, Scottie, in this painting. A sweetheart. Karina is ice skating in Sweden! We are going around the globe here. Both of these will be on ebay for sale. 5 by 7 inches each and on stretched canvas with collage papers and acrylic paint. Pink colors are so restful and calm.

Magnificent in miniature. These two terriers will steal your heart. Each one is tiny and are handmade, wool felted dogs.

ACEO Westie Dog Painting Oil Miniatures

Miniature affordable original oil paintings are what we all want. Myself included. I've painted some to sell to other westie lovers, and I believe there are a good number of westie doggy boys and girls out there who all have wonderful parents that care for them.

These originals are painted on canvas that is stretched over a small wooden frame and looks just like the larger oils with the painting going around all edges for added appeal. Small and beautiful. Kind of like the real thing! By that I mean the real westie dog who:

Always have a smile for us

Never say they are bored
Set at our feet like they are connected to us

Cheer like crazy when we come home...and so on

Westie Paintings and Art Prints

Capturing the westie spirit is easy to do when you have a puppy (once a puppy always called a puppy) as a shadow. Ironically, once we get outside he is never a shadow he is always ahead of me continually turning around adjusting where he is going so that he is in a straight line ahead of me.

This painting is titled "Meadow Music" and puppy has dropped his ball and is listening to the crickets sing their songs. I've made some prints of this one and will offer them on ebay.

Westie Sweater Dogs Sledding Painting

Just when we think we hear spring whistling down the lane...we receive 6 inches of fresh powdered snow to work or play with. (Forget about getting out the gardening shovel and pull out the snow shovel again.) My westie chooses playing over working hands down. The snow is way too powdery to form into some magnificent lawn ornament, but it's great for sledding, and saucers. Saucers are for the funloving type. You speed downhill and spin around at the same time.

The colors are soft like the snow. When it snows there is such a calm outside (when there isn't any wind at least) so I tried to capture that with the colors and the westies being a bit more colorful and energetic.

Growing and Feeding Topiary

Let the snow fall. We will garden indoors with an outdoor attitude! We garden in our imagination, in our waking hours and in our sleep. We garden on paper and canvas, we garden on cupcakes! It is a passion. Even our westie dog has caught the gardening fever.

Topiary standards are little living green works of whimsy. They are fairly easy to grown and maintain. If you don't have a green thumb you could always have a moss covered topiary form instead. I like the real living plant myself.

I would love to have a stainless steel covered table like the one above for gardening. Wood tables are okay, but I guess it European-ish to have one like this. Even in the kitchen. Say like the kitchen in Julia and Julia where Julia Child's in this stainless steel kitchen in Paris. Cook like a pro and garden like a pro.

My yew shrubs that I bought last year are extremely hardy and still in their pots outside. I have not yet figured out how I want to shape them. They are a wonderful deep forest green. The mercedes and bentley's of hedges and garden topiaries.

Westie Dog's Valentine Day & Pink Roses

How do you celebrate Valentine's Day? Do you dine in or dine out? Roses? Chocolates? Dinner? This little westie family is celebrating it together. That is how traditions are made.

For the colors of this painting I went with pink and green. Classic color combinations. A person can't go wrong with these two colors. They can be soft and romantic or bold and bright depending on how deep or dark you choose the colors to be.

Siamese Cats and Westie Dogs

Our not so shabby looking westie boy, Sir Salty. Snow or frost running is always on the daily agenda and he is wondering what is taking me so long to catch up. He has that look, "Don't tell me you're going back in the house now?

Two of our siamese cats getting some sun and waiting for spring like the rest of us. They are watching our westie run all around on the hill and thinking "He is crazy. It's much better to be a spectator today and move very little, but then that is what they say in the summer, too.

My Westie Dog Santa Claus Outfit

Today Santa Claus was out and about! Look at him. He also looks like the scrooge, too, with that sad face. (Santa doesn't need to look for deer because they are all over our fields.)

He is actually smiling a bit here. Even though it's sunny out, it's 32 now, the wind bites you! The more I jumped up and down with the camera and told Sir Salty how handsome he was, the sourer he looked. What he wanted to do was run around and sitting and posing seemed like such a dull thing to do on this sunny day.

This little outfit was only a few dollars and he doesn't mind it except for the hat. (Would he have felt better if I had spent more?) He put one paw up to his head and took off the red, cute, fuzzy thing, and shook it around. He feels totally humiliated with it on. He was not going to show me his sweet face in this shot even though I was saying all kinds of favorable things to him. (But then again I am used to being around boys and men!)

But all ends well because when we came inside and got treats he decided he loves me again and is at my feet being sweet. We will have more photo shoots soon as we're expecting to get up to 10-inches of snow.

Well Westie Dog Vet Check up Today

Our westie boy, Sir Salty had his scheduled yearly check-up today. Doesn't he look sad above? As soon as we pulled into the parking lot he began to get nervous, but at the same time he was very anxious to get out of the car. The combined flight or fight syndrome. Plowed right over me like I was a little bush. Couldn't get out fast enough! What had he missed since the last time he was here in October? Inside on the table he was still anxious but had stopped shaking.

While waiting for the doctor to come into the examining room he's beginning to think this place is not so bad after all and "ha-ha's" a bit for me. Sir Salty feels it is fun to be up on the counter...he never could do this at home! He starts enjoying it and even tries to make out what is in the cabinets behind him on his hind legs. I could read his mind, "Any treats hidden up here?"

The happiest westie dog ever when it's all said and done! Laughing even!

While at the vet's I saw a little rabbit getting prepped for surgery in the operating room under anesthesia. Sir Salty did not see because he isn't tall enough to see through the small glass window on the door.

I saw a small brown/black poodle walk by after getting groomed feeling so frisky and happy! A jump, a few shakes and lots of kisses!

I saw two fat resident cats literally run from person to person rubbing their legs and greeting each newcomer including us when we came and when we left.

I saw two girls on the phones answering callers questions about their pets.

I saw a very happy environment!

See Sir Salty it's not a bad place to be. Woof.

Football Westie Dog Days

Game Ball. Yep it's the ball that goes to the most helpful player on the winning team or to a coach. This Westie won this hydro football as an award for several reasons. Best running back. Best offensive. Best coach. Best player in the rain. Best Fan! Best looking!

Halloween Spiderman Hat Westie Dog

Spiders on halloween help you see in the dark. Our westie doesn't need any help seeing, but the huge spider was a little scary. He was a real trooper and didn't mind wearing this for a short time. I did give him a pinch of peanut butter as a treat.

Elsewhere around town First Lady Michelle was dressed as a catwoman. And the first dog? Was he dressed up?
