Sometimes I need a little pick me up in the early morning . Keep those eyes open. This morning I got out the pewter plates. Nothing makes you more thankful for nice china dishes than pewter. I love the old-fashionedness and the slate grey of pewter. Like I am waking up in Colonial Williamsburg. But they are heavy! Can you imagine hand washing a stack of these every meal? Pass the jam please and the cookie cutters.




I was given some Trader Joe's preserves (thank you Rebecca) and they are so tart and delicious. Like a day in May. Philadelphia Cream Cheese on my first toast and then added the star toast with raspberry jam. So delicious. Fully charged. Ready to leave my French Castle. ;-)

Hawaiian Quilt

A citrus splash of color on my wall today right where you enter our house. Don't you love the patterns of Hawaiian quilts? The two stripe vases I've had for years. They look stunning with one large stem sunflower in each of them.

The metal basket I recently picked up and I'm thinking of dipping it in enamel paint. But first before I do that I should paint it a burnt orange so that when I wipe the white off the edges it will have that ages-old-rusty-and-chippy-white appeal.

The basket could be used in the garden on new plants in the spring so that the deer and rabbits can't reach their sweet new shoots. I guess I could still do it when it's chippy and white.

Another option is to turn it upside down and make it a lamp shade!

All White Decorating or Gray White or....?

Just when I convinced myself to have everything totally white in one room I'm rethinking it. All it took was a visit to restoration hardware online to buy some glass drawer knobs. I'm calling this color taupe, beige, gray and well, awesome. Really it's the color flax and linen. The color of stone and sand. So natural.




These two "bookshelves" that are filled with china are around $6,000. each. They are new for sale, of course, with an antique finish and lots of appliques on the top. Altogether lovely. While our westie dog dreams of squirrels I will be dreaming about how to make some of these timbered showcases. Maybe I could manage a mini one for a doll!

Vintage Roses ACEO Oil Painting

Roses are very calming. There is something so beautiful about the old fashioned cupped roses that we are at a loss for words when we see them. Only quiet smiles come forth from our mouths and ohhh's and ahhhh's which say more than any one word can. They are always the center of attention in every handpicked bouquet, that is if roses are in it.

I painted this 2.5 by 3.5 canvas with roses and other sweet companions in the softest, sweetest colors, and it is for sale on ebay

Damask, gallica, portland, or bourbon roses I love them all.

Show off your Cottage Monday

I am joining in on some fun and sharing some pictures of a taste of our cottage home started by a house in the roses. Each Monday you can post a picture of your garden, home or items that bring happiness and that cottage feeling.

We have some sweet siamese kittens that are purrr-fect. Look how she's looking up and enjoying our company! ...And we just bought a serger sewing machine on Saturday (my first one ever!) so I added my rose skirt fabric under my gardening hat which is under one of my siamese kittens. Layer up your display items with love and you usually end up with a nice little arrangement.

Siamese Cats and Westie Dogs

Our not so shabby looking westie boy, Sir Salty. Snow or frost running is always on the daily agenda and he is wondering what is taking me so long to catch up. He has that look, "Don't tell me you're going back in the house now?

Two of our siamese cats getting some sun and waiting for spring like the rest of us. They are watching our westie run all around on the hill and thinking "He is crazy. It's much better to be a spectator today and move very little, but then that is what they say in the summer, too.
