Decorating Tip for Indoor Potted Plants

Indoor plants and flowers keep me happy until

Spring arrives with baskets of bouncy flowers.

These gorgeous blooms are keeping me company

right now.

The white amaryllis bulb I got for 3.00 after the New Year.

It now has two stalks of flowers blooming.

That makes eight flowers!

I thought it looked good next to the orchid.

My dilemna to solve was the visible pot

after dropping the potted plants into

the vintage white soup tureens.

I tried a white sheer thin fabric like

a scarf, but it ended up looking like a sock

that fell to the plants ankles.

I looked around me for something else.

Problem solving without spending money

is always pleasant, and needful.

A few old books I picked up at a used

book store for art projects caught my eye

across the room.

Three pages for each pot were torn out

of the book and used as liners.

I think they look clean lined and crisp!

(The ribbon hides the title of the book.)

The hardbound book cost me a dollar

and still more projects are left with it.

It almost reminds me of getting nuts or

treats in a paper bag from a street food

vendor or country fair.

Don't be surprised if all of my plants will be

wrapped in old book pages now!

The flower petals on both plants shimmer like satin.

I've keep the white color theme and there is

such a ethereal beauty and calm in this room.

My White Interiors

The sun shines in bright on the south side

of the house and that is the side where we spend

most of our time.

I remember reading about the Scandinavian

homes being bright white,

a warm white

that is inviting, calming and comfortable.

Nothing stark or cold about it.

You do not have to live next to the beach

to have white interiors

whether it's the mountains, the prairies

or the woods, home is as bright and cherry

as you make it.

I slipped a tiny little nest up high among the

orchid flowers making them a little magical

especially to the little folk.

Coca Cola Bottle Red Christmas Habitat

Serving up a little Christmas cheer...




with a pinch of the color red.




Actually I am serving up greenery and sugar snow.




My glass Coke bottle has a little fir tree of it's own hidden inside. Not so hidden, but safe. I am growing a little forest inside. Maybe it will grow right out of the bottle.




This bottle cap has just the right punch of color.

It was cold yesterday and then we had a wind storm. At midnight it was 62. This morning it was in the 30's again. (You notice these things when you have a dog.) Will we get snow for Christmas?

Faded Tonal Shabby Chic Colors

Brown, beige and creams are such soothing colors. They are also shabby chic to me. Your accents don't have to be the sweet kiss of candy pink to be shabby. Colors of the prairie. Aren't these two above nice companions? Both brown and beige which makes a happy marriage. Johnson Brothers brown transfer ware china is, man enough for men, and lady enough for women even though it's not pink.




Ballard Designs sells some wonderful fabrics and the one on my wish list is this linen stripe above! Isn't it a classic? You can always add colors for the holidays for the color lover in us. I am working on keeping neutral colors. I have to keep editing.



These faded hydrangea flowers are beige brown and a hint of pink. This is branching out a bit on the color chart, but keeping with the same base colors and adding hints of other colors. Totally awesome combination and especially against the old barn that is almost a mirror to those same colors. My bucket is a bit too blue for me. (Hopefully you don't get vertigo from looking at this picture.)

Other news here. Some folks in Harper's Ferry, West Virginia had their power off for 4 days from our little snow storm. Here in Maryland there were also several small areas without power for 3 and 4 days! It was neat to see all of the electrical trucks from other states and power companies in their own parades going down the highways. Thank you! Thank you! I know some came from Kentucky. (I would not know how to hook up a computer to a generator. ;-/ nor would I attempt it.)
